Charging Data Website Empty Charging Data Website

Post  nicolasweninger Wed Apr 17, 2013 8:03 am

Here's our team website that displays data from the charging station. It's still a work in progress, and we haven't finished testing though. We're still sending it dummy data for testing purposes, but soon we'll connect it up properly!

Any thoughts?

Charging Data Website Empty Charging station technology

The charging station features a solar panel rack and a charging-control unit (controlled by an Arduino Ethernet). This sends charging data via Ethernet to a VPS via frequent GET requests containing a lot of information. This is archived in a database using MYSQL.

On the front-end, the website is (no surprises here) coded in html, CSS and javascript (using jQuery). The user's browser then makes frequent AJAX requests to load any new data from the charging station.

There is potential to add an automated Twitter feed for example, but we haven't done this yet.

We would have used a Raspberry Pi but Rapid unfortunately didn't stock them! We had some other more advanced functions that would have needed a real-time processor anyway though; the Raspberry Pi has quite a bit of lag.

We're using a Raspberry Pi for another project, but mostly requires USB peripherals.
