We are the Solar team, we are called Solarity as the JCB Academy is an engineering school and Polarity is an engineering term and this is the Solar challenge so we put the two together and ended up with Solarity. We are a 5 man team, all males which could be a disadvantage for organisation. Razz So far we have done about 9 pages of the presentation. We have designed cars from recycled materials around the school and eaten a lot of biscuits.

Today was a very productive day. This week we started designing a mount for charging the solar panel. We tested some different motors and done more chassis design. We have come up with a great idea for a promotional gift, by accident! We tested how long it takes to charge the solar panel and how long it takes different motors to run the capacitor down. And of course there were biscuits. Very Happy

Great! After reading your post we now have a couple of 'Custard Creams' each every day'! Good to see some product design coming from the challenge!!! How long does your capacitor take to charge?... ours is around 50mins. were getting on well too. (:

We struggled at first to find a bright light source, untill we noticed the light on the lathe. With that it took about 20mins, so now we are going to look at a range of motors to see which ones last longest with that charge.

After coming up with a range of wheel designs we cut a few out today using the laser cutter.

and of course we had more biscuits.

Next week we would like to put a circuit together and start thinking about switches.
